Fractures are created by pumping large quantities of fluids at high pressure down a wellbore and into the target rock formation. Hydraulic fracturing fluid commonly consists of water, proppant and chemical additives that open and enlarge fractures within the rock formation. These fractures can extend several hundred feet away from the wellbore.
Most of the water and additives used in hydraulic fracturing (or "fracking") remain deep underground in the geologic formation from which the oil or gas is being extracted. But some of the fluid, mixed with water or brine from the formation, returns through the well to the surface and is referred to as "produced water".
This specification discloses a hydraulic fracturing process for forming and propping a vertical fracture in a subterranean formation. This method is particularly applicable for large fracture treatments where fracturing fluids with little or no fluid loss additives are employed to extend long vertical fractures into the formation. It is also particularly applicable for refracturing a …
About. Nika PetroTech company is actively developing on the oil stimulation market. There are three plants in the Nika PetroTech group: production of ceramic proppants, flow-back proppants recovery facility and chemicals production. Also we have modern highly-developed scientific facilities. PROPPANT PRODUCTION.
As part of a joint industrial initiative, Texas A&M University graduate researcher Gabriel Tatman used 3D printing to replicate cracks that reveal proppant and diverter activity. Over time, the oil and gas industry has adjusted the proppants and diverters used in fracture operations to boost oil recovery in shale reservoirs. 3D printing technology helps to address …
Proppants are generally either sand, resin-coated sand, or ceramic. Finally, the pressure is released and the fluid is flowed back from the well. A majority of the proppant remains trapped in the formation, which keeps the fractures open and allows gas/oil to flow. See this video for an animation of the hydraulic fracturing process.
Fracturing allows for extended production in older oil and natural gas fields. It also allows for the recovery of oil and natural gas from formations that geologists once believed were impossible to produce, such as tight shale formations in the areas shown on the map below. Hydraulic fracturing is also used to extend the life of older wells in ...
Proppants (propping agents) are then pumped into the oil well with fracturing fluid to hold the fissures open so that the natural gas or crude oil can flow up the well. The Proppant Market The proppant market is currently experiencing very high growth, primarily driven by increased drilling in North America and the Asia-Pacific regions.
The essence of the hydraulic fracturing method for enhancing oil recovery is described. The definition of proppants is given and their average chemical composition is determined. In the process of an analytical review, the article presents proppants that are widely used in the oil industry. For each type of proppant, the main technical characteristics (bulk density and …
(a) Notwithstanding Section 10231.5, on or before January 1, 2014, and annually thereafter, the supervisor shall prepare and transmit to the Legislature a comprehensive report regarding hydraulic fracturing in oil and gas exploration and production in California, using the information provided pursuant to Section 3156.
Hydraulic Fracturing of Oil and Gas Wells in Kansas. Daniel R. Suchy and K. David Newell Kansas Geological Survey Introduction. Hydraulic fracturing is a method of enhancing oil and gas recovery from wells by injecting water, sand, and chemicals into rock formations under very high pressure to fracture the rock and release trapped hydrocarbons.
A hydraulic fracturing process is described for forming and propping a vertical fracture in a subterranean formation. This method is particularly applicable for large fracture treatments where fracturing fluids with little or no fluid loss additives are employed to extend long vertical fractures into the formation.

Hydraulic fracturing treatment is the stimulation of a well by the application of hydraulic fracturing fluid under pressure for the express purpose of initiating or propagating fractures in a target geologic formation to enhance production of oil and/or natural gas. The sand or other proppant material holds the fractures open.
Ceramic proppant, known as petroleum fracturing proppant, is one new type of material made from bauxite, manganese powder and additives by the process of crushing, drying, batching, pelletizing, calcining, cooling and sieving.
PRODUCTION PROCESS 1. Crushing. The size of bauxite from mine is around 300~500mm, low moisture, After two-stage crushing which is composed by Jaw crusher and hammer crusher, the size of bauxite will be around 25mm. 2. Dosing.
The use of proppant combined with various additives, as a mean to control proppant flowback in propped hydraulic fracturing treatments, has gained a wide support in the industry.
This invention is related to the oil and gas production industry and more particularly to a proppant that can be used to enhance oil and gas production in hydraulic fracturing. Most particularly, the invention is a composition and a manufacturing process for making ceramic proppant: a ceramic matrix composition formed from a precursor of the matrix and a …
Channel fracturing In-situ proppant generation abstract The main function of traditional proppants is to provide and maintain conductive fractures during well production where proppants should meet closure stress requirement and show resistance to diagenesis under downhole conditions. at the end of the fracturing process. The very first fracturing job used river sand as the proppant. Currently, the most com-monly used proppants are 20/40 mesh sand, which account for 485% of the proppant use by the industry. Other commonly used proppants include resin-coated sand, intermediate-strength
During the production of tight oil or gas, highly viscous fracturing fluids ensure achievement of uniformity in the distribution of proppants by avoiding its premature or concentrated settlement. This is a major step towards optimization of conductivity and proppant embedment ( Yu and Sepehrnoori, 2013 ).
1. Introduction. As conventional reservoirs are being depleted, unconventional reservoirs are considered as a valuable source to meet global energy demands, especially following their commercial development using the advanced hydraulic fracturing technology (Awan et al., 2020a).Hydraulic fracturing treatment with proppants is an important …
Used to boost well performance, hydraulic fracturing is a process utilized to introduce a fracture or new pathway in a hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir for increasing its functionality and improving its productivity. The treatment involves using water or oil-based fluids in conjunction with fracturing proppants.
Reviews history and notes fracturing now economical enough to become standard practice in oil and gas industry and is characterized by the use of long horizontal wells and higher volumes of complex mixtures of water, proppants and chemical additives for injection as compared to earlier practices.
